The pilot plant, consisting of three MBBRs in series, demonstrated that the majority of pharmaceutical removal occurred in the first reactor, with degradation rates varying across the reactors. The experiments revealed that while batch experiments showed higher removal rates, continuous flow experiments indicated lower actual removal rates under realistic conditions.
