What is Chapter 5. On the Wings of a Dove about?

During my childhood in Southern California, I slept under a win dow that opened out to a series of foothills covered with sagebrush. There is much I remember about those foothills and the wider natu ral world I encountered there-the scamper of road runners, the howl of coyotes, the red flash of prickly pears amid the cactus. But what I remember most is the bittersweet fragrance of sagebrush wafting through my win dow at night, especially after a rare rainstorm. Sagebrush is a woody, scrubby plant found throughout much of the western United States, among other similar Mediterranean climates. It grows wild in arid grasslands and desert regions. It is also cultivated for its ornamental flowers as well as its medicinal and herbal properties. I use sage in tea and recipes such as cornbread stuffing at Thanksgiving and paired with lemon in roasted chicken. It has long been considered one of the principal herbs for general cooking.
