What is Response to Letter to the Editor Entitled “Short and Long-Term Prognostic Significance of Galectin-3 in Patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention” about?
As we mentioned in our study, 2 high galectin-3 levels are associated with heart failure (HF) development and rehospitalization in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Di Tano et al. 3 found galectin-3 values to be significant in predicting the combined primary outcome, including HF, in 103 patients who underwent primary angioplasty for the first time with anterior myocardial infarction. However, as stated by Liu et al., 1 the results supporting these findings have generally been obtained from small-scale studies. Our study had a small study population. Therefore, it may not allow accurate association inference for a study investigating the prognostic effect of a biomarker on cardiovascular events. More studies are needed for definitive findings to prove this.
