This document describes an experiment to determine the drying characteristics of a sample using a tray dryer. Approximately 150 grams of sawdust sample is spread in a tray and water is added. The tray is placed in the dryer and weight loss over time is recorded at different temperatures. Drying rates are calculated and plotted against moisture content to determine the constant and falling rate periods, from which critical moisture content and drying times are derived.
