In this scene from Act 4, Scene 5 of Hamlet, Ophelia appears to have gone mad and is singing cryptic songs to the Queen and later the King. Her songs contain hidden messages about her lost love with Hamlet after he betrayed her, as well as the death of her father. Ophelia is grieving the loss of both Hamlet and her father Polonius and questioning the nature of love and relationships between men and women.
