What is Water Spraying Systems for LPG Tanks about?

This paper presents the results of fire tests on 4.85 m3 LPG storage tanks protected by two types of water spraying systems (WSS). Tests found that a conventional WSS with spraying rates up to 1000 l/(m2.h) was unable to prevent tank failure when fully engulfed in fire. An upgraded WSS consisting of five pipes around the tank was able to protect the tank with a spraying rate of around 400 l/(m2.h). The test parameters, results, and design aspects of the two WSS are discussed in detail.
