What is Skeletal Muscle Metastasis from Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma about?

Sir d Malignant mesothelioma is a tumor of mesodermal origin that arises from serosal surfaces of pleura, peritoneum and occasionally pericardium and tunica vaginalis. Metastasis usually occurs by direct invasion into adjacent tissue. Although distant metastases are unusual, hematogenous dissemination is reported to occur to liver, spleen, adrenals, bone, pancreas, kidney, uterus, bone marrow and brain [1]. To our knowledge there is only one recorded case of metastasis to skeletal muscle from malignant mesothelioma [2]. A 52-year-old man was referred to our clinic with progressive shortness of breath and right shoulder pain. He had a history of heavy smoking for 30 years and no known history of exposure to asbestos. An anteriorposterior chest radiograph and computed tomographic scan (CT) showed several pleural-based nodules in the right lung. Subsequent open pleural biopsy revealed tubulopapillary structures lined by cuboidal epithelial-like malignant cells; thyroid transcription factor 1, carcinoembryonic antigen and TAG72 stainings were all negative and calretinin was positive in immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis. The lesion was diagnosed as epitheloid malignant pleural mesothel
