Arkose is a sedimentary rock usually composed of quartz and more than 25% feldspar with sand-sized grains that are angular to subrounded. It forms from the weathering and erosion of granite and gneiss rocks, with the sediments deposited in fluvial, lacustrine, or shallow marine environments. Arkose is commonly found with conglomerates containing granite pebbles and is widely distributed including in Triassic basins in the eastern United States.
