In vitro modification of the chemical composition of human plasma low density lipoproteins: Effects on morphology and thermal properties by R. Zechner; G.M. Kostner; H. Dieplinger; G. Degovics; P. Laggner is a Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology article available to read on EtoBox.

What is In vitro modification of the chemical composition of human plasma low density lipoproteins: Effects on morphology and thermal properties about?

The effects of enzymatic action on human low density lipoproteins (LDL) occurring during in vitro incubation of plasma have been studied by chemical analysis, analytical ultracentrifugation, negative stain electron microscopy and X-ray small angle scattering. ('heroically, the action of cholesteryl ester exchange and transfer protein(s) (CETP) leads to a relative increase in triglycerides at the expense of cholesteryl esters. Morphologically, the particles maintain their characteristic features detectable by X-ray small angle stuttering. Additional action of lecithin/ cholesterol acyl transferasc (LCAT) ~uscs mainly a decrease in polar lipid contents Jnd a reduction in particle size. The associated changes in the thcrmotropic transition were found to be strongly correlated to the triglyceride/cholesteryl ester ratio.
