What is Bomoicar : stories of Bombay Goans, 1920-1980 about?

Bomoicar takes you on a round trip of 20th century Bombay. Stop for a bite of 'baangda-curry-rce' and tongue roast at joints in Dhobitalao, originally a washerman's lake. Later in the evening, down a glass of the Goan Aunty hooch with roasted gram or fried Bombay duck. And as Cotton Mary serenades youf rom quadrangles in Byculla, Mazagon, Grant Road or Colaba, inhale the aroma of cutlets and potato chops wafting from tiny Goan kitchens. Over the weekend, catch a game of football at the Cooperage and end the evening with finger-licking 'sorpotel' or pork chops at Vienna's in Dhobitalao or at City Kitchen in Ballard Estate. Come September and you can follow Our Lady's statue around the parish and return home with handkerchiefs bursting with boiled chickpeas, 'nankhatais' and mince 'patties'. For a touch of drama, pose with a mock Chevrolet at the Bandra Fair, tuck into 'kaleji' fry and candy floss and hear the band play your song in the Wigwam. And when the bustle gets too much, quietly step onto the Goa-bound steamer, 'Konkan Shakti', open your lunch box of roast beef sandwiches and fish cutlets, and sip some black canteen 'chai' on a deckful of garrulous 'Bomoicars'.
