About this Chemistry article

Heterogenization of homogeneous catalysts in polymer nanoparticles: From easier recovery and reuse to more efficient catalysis by Chen, Tianyou (author);Peng, Yan (author);Qiu, Meishuang (author);Yi, Changfeng (author);Xu, Zushun (author) is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.

Commercially available polymer resins such as Merrifield resin have been extensively used as supports in the heterogenization of homogenous catalysts, allowing easier recovery and reuse of the catalysts. The immobilized catalysts may become less efficient compared to the homogenous counterparts because the polymer resins are not optimized for immobilization. To overcome this limitation, various polymer nanoparticles have been developed in the last decades for the immobilization of molecular catalysts including organocatalysts and organometallic complexes. In this review, we highlight recent works addressing the topic of the heterogenization of homogenous catalysts in polymer nanoparticles. We review the engineering of polymer nanoparticles for the immobilization of molecular catalysts. There are eight types of emerging polymer nanoparticles used as supports, including star-shaped polymer, bottlebrush polymer, single-chain nanoparticle (SCNP), polymer micelle, non-amphiphilic polymer nanoaggregate, microgel, molecularly imprinted nanoparticle (MINP), and hollow porous polymer nanosphere. Next, we discuss five positive effects of polymer nanoparticles on catalytic properties: enablin
