Ghazi Ilm-UD-DIN Shaheed was a young man from Lahore who assassinated Raj Pal, a publisher who published a blasphemous book against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Ilm Din stabbed Raj Pal to death in his shop. He was arrested and sentenced to death. Allama Muhammad Iqbal urged Muhammad Ali Jinnah to defend Ilm Din, but he refused any defense claiming provocation and stood by his actions. Ilm Din was hanged in 1929.
