Aneura pinguis, commonly known as greasewort, is a mid-green liverwort that can range greatly in size from less than 1 cm to over 8 cm long. It has a thick, chunky appearance with slightly wavy margins and produces cylindrical sporophytes on its sides. While it can be confused with smaller Riccardia species or larger Pellia species, it has distinguishing features such as its greasy color and lack of brown colors in large specimens. A. pinguis is commonly found in damp places like flushes, fens, quarry floor
