The Baroque style was an ornate and extravagant style of architecture, music, art and sculpture that flourished in Europe from the early 17th to mid 18th century. It followed the Renaissance and preceded Rococo and Neoclassical styles. Baroque used contrast, movement, detail, color and grandeur to evoke awe. It began in Rome and spread to other parts of Europe, evolving into an even more flamboyant Rococo style by the 1730s.
