A 4-year-old boy exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with prednisolone and methylprednisolone for nephrotic syndrome. Additionally, at the age of 5 years, he developed severe adrenal insufficiency during treatment with prednisolone and methylprednisolone for nephrotic syndrome.The boy, who developed steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome at the age of 2 years, had been treated with ciclosporin [cyclosporine], mizoribine and unspecified corticosteroids. At the age of 4 years, he had disease relapse. Nephrotic syndrome was also found to be resistant to prednisolone 2 mg/kg and four courses of methylprednisolone pulse therapy [routes not stated; not all dosages stated], indicating lack of efficacy. But, he responded to cyclophosphamide at 7 months following relapse onset. During tapering of glucocorticoid therapy, he showed various symptoms including facial oedema, general fatigue, appetite loss, decreased urine volume and dizziness at the age of 5 years.
