What is Caste and Manual Scavenging Issues about?

Manual scavenging is a caste-based practice where Dalit communities clean human excreta, perpetuated by caste beliefs and social control. Despite existing laws prohibiting this practice, weak enforcement and lack of political organization hinder progress, while societal norms view it as a traditional duty. To address this issue, stronger community representation, law enforcement, and a shift in public discourse towards dignity and caste justice are essential.
