What is Intimacy and Competence in Youth Friendships about?
This study examined whether intimacy of friendship is more important for socioemotional adjustment during adolescence than preadolescence. The author assessed intimacy and competence in close relationships for 102 preadolescents and 70 adolescents. Intimacy of friendship was more consistently correlated with adjustment and competence among adolescents, suggesting it becomes increasingly important during early adolescence.
