General Gregorio del Pilar led 60 Filipino soldiers against 300 American soldiers at the Battle of Tirad Pass on December 2, 1899. Del Pilar was ordered to block the American advance so that Emilio Aguinaldo could retreat with his forces. From their position atop the mountain, Del Pilar and his men engaged the Americans below.
