What is Traditional Song: Till The Tide Comes In about?

This folk song describes sailors meeting up with friends and romantic partners while waiting for the tide to come in so they can set sail again. They spend their time drinking gin, dancing, singing and kissing their partners until the tide rises and it is time to pay and leave to set sail once more. They promise to meet again when the next tide allows them time together on land before their next voyage.
