What is AIFTA Trade Agreement Overview about?

The ASEAN-India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) agreement aims to eliminate tariffs between ASEAN countries and India. Tariffs will be eliminated on most goods by 2016 between India and original ASEAN members, and by 2021 for newer ASEAN members like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. The agreement establishes rules of origin and customs documentation requirements for preferential tariff treatment. It also includes provisions for resolving disputes among member countries.
