This systematic review analyzed randomized clinical trials to assess the cognitive effects of antidepressants in major depressive disorder. It found antidepressants had a positive effect on psychomotor speed and delayed recall. Nine placebo-controlled trials were analyzed, as well as head-to-head trials comparing different classes of antidepressants. Limitations included heterogeneity, small sample sizes, and limited number of studies.
