Research and Practice 200 (2004) [285][286][287][288][289] fection with Borrelia burgdorferi is well known. We report about a patient with a cerebral diffuse large B-cell lmyphoma one year after a localized encephalitis during an acute Lyme disease. ## Methods: Peripheral blood was investigated with ELISA to identify immunoglubulines against Borrelia burgdorferi. Biopsy specimens of the encephalitis ( 2001) and of the cerebral lymphoma (2002) were available. For immunohistochemical analysis the following antibodies were used: CD3, CD20, bcl2 and Ki-67 (Ki-S5). Molecular genetic analysis (PCR) for the detection of B. burgdorferi-DNA was done with four different primer sets. Results: ELISA of the blood revealed IgM-levels against Borrelia burgdorferi in 2001 and 2002. The brain biopsy specimens of the encephalitis ( 2001) showed a reactive lesion without evidence of a lymphoma. The second brain biopsy one year later revealed a CD20positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with a high proliferation index of more than 50%. Molecular genetic analysis for the detection of B. burgdorferi-DNA showed no PCR fragment in both biopsies. ## Conclusion: This case demonstrates a patient with an acut
