What is Yu Chen-2023 about?

This study investigates the relationship between high-speed rail and carbon emissions in Chinese cities from 2000 to 2017. Using a difference-in-difference method and carbon emission data from 285 cities, the study finds that the opening of a high-speed rail line may reduce regional carbon emissions, especially in cities with economies reliant on outside investment and secondary industries. A series of robustness tests support the results.
