About this document

Slow Cooling to Prevent Cracks in Cr-Mo Steel by Ankur gaur is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Slow cooling of hot rolled Cr-Mo steel bars was investigated to eliminate hydrogen induced cracks. Bars of 42CrMo4 and SCM 440H steel were either slow cooled in an insulated steel box or air cooled. Slow cooled bars took over 4 times longer to cool from 900-920°C to 200°C than air cooled bars. Slow cooled bars exhibited reduced hardness up to 78 BHN and were free of ultrasonic defects, unlike air cooled bars which contained hydrogen induced cracks. Slow cooling allows more time for hydrogen diffusion and re
