This document describes a simple DC-DC converter circuit that can step up a low input voltage to a higher output voltage. The circuit uses readily available components like a transistor, diode, resistor, capacitor and an inductor coil. Various coils were tested, with a solenoid providing the best performance. The circuit oscillates at around 40 kHz and can boost voltages like powering a 12V device from a 6V battery or a 1.5V battery. However, output voltage is not regulated and will drop with higher loads.
