The education of the children of the dukes of Pomerania was strongly determined by gender. While the young Philipp of Pomerania grew up, and was educated, in Heidelberg, his sisters were educated some years later at home in the women's quarters. There, Mary of Saxonia, Philipp's wife, was the teacher for the young women at court. Even though the learning of Philipp and the learning of his sisters and daughters had different contents, they learned by observation, by listening and by way of observing and following exempla. By analyzing written sources, especially letters of Mary and Philipp, this article throws light upon the way of education at court in the beginning of the sixteenth century.
