A one-year prospective study was conducted at an infectious diseases hospital in Jakarta to determine the incidence of urinary tract nosocomial infections (UTNIs). Of the 2,288 patients hospitalized during this period, 723 met the criteria to be included in the study. Urine cultures were performed on day 1, 3, and 7 of hospitalization. A total of 115 cases (15.9%) of UTNI were found. Female patients had a higher rate of UTNI than males (19.8% vs 12.4%). The highest rate of UTNI was in children under 1 year
