What is Advanced Combustion Methods about?
The great master did it again! After writing the first book by himself [1], the second with one coauthor [2], this time he coopted four. How did he do it? Quite simply. Having decided to produce a book dedicated particularly to, in his own words, "promise for the future rather than extent of present use," he evidently came to the conclusion that this can be best accomplished by seeking the cooperation of people who, quoting him again, are "well known by their international reputations as outstanding authorities in the fields of which they wrlte." In executing this idea he was especially careful to avoid the pitfalls of dilution due to "contributions chosen on the basis of whom the editor happens to know personally rather than who is best acquainted with the subject." Each author presented his topic in a separate chapter. Weinberg's editorial skills turned out to be superb for, in spite of this, the book appears to the reader as relatively uniform in style, despite the fact that the balance between the descriptive and the mathematical approach varies quite a bit from one chapter to the other.
