What is ASCII vs Unicode: Key Differences about?
ASCII and Unicode were early systems for encoding characters in computers. ASCII used 7 bits which allowed for 127 characters but was insufficient for non-English languages. Unicode improved on this by using up to 32 bits, allowing for over 4 billion character possibilities to represent all languages. Binary addition is performed similarly to decimal, by carrying digits and sums less than 2 become the next digit, while sums of 2 or more carry a 1 to the next place value.
