Ulysses S. Grant was born in 1822 in Ohio and attended West Point Military Academy. He served in the Mexican-American War and was promoted to Captain. After resigning from the military due to alcohol issues, he returned in 1862 as a Major General. He was later promoted to Lieutenant General and led Union forces to victory in the Civil War. After serving two terms as U.S. President, he retired in New York but lost money investing in his son
