A detailed investigation of Singapore Lower Marine Clay was carried out at the Singapore Arts Centre (SAC) Site and Pulau Tekong (PT) site. A series of x-ray diffraction tests showed that the principal mineral is kaolinite, though the clay from the PT Site also showed an appreciable presence of smectite. The effect of sampling was found to be most pronounced immediately after the preconsolidation pressure.
