What is Creating the Full-Service Homework Center in Your Library about?
I have many people to thank for supporting and enflaming my interest in homework centers. First and foremost, I want to thank former Orange Public Library director Karen Leo for having the vision to create the Friendly Stop and Anthony Garcia, former Friendly Stop manager, for inspiring in me a love of working with young people. I am also most grateful to Professor Virginia Walter for encouraging me to continue my research on homework centers despite a major change in my doctoral emphasis. I must also thank Mary Jo Lynch and the other members of the Fyan Committee, who realized the value in my studying after-school homework-assistance programs and so granted me a Loleta D. Fyan Research Grant in 1998 to complete my research. I am also indebted to the staff of all the libraries I visited-both virtually and in person-without whom this book would not be possible:
