prostate cancer (PrCa) has become a relevant issue. The literature examining the incidence and biological progression of PrCa for this population is limited, with even less known about the tolerance and efficacy of external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). We compared the outcome of men with HIV to a control population with negative or unknown HIV status when treated with EBRT. Materials/Methods: A database of approximately 800 men with PrCa treated with definitive EBRT in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University from 1999 to 2009 was reviewed excluding men treated with prostatectomy or brachytherapy. Thirteen men with HIV were identified and matched to two control patients based on age, race, T stage, prostate specific antigen (PSA), Gleason score, RT dose, intensity-modulated RT vs. three dimensional conformal RT and whole pelvis vs. prostate only RT, for a total of 39 cases. Radiation Therapy Oncology Group morbidity scoring was used to describe toxicity. The median follow-up time was 39 months (range, 3-110).
