This document describes a new species of oribatid mite, Paroppia patagonica, discovered in soil and leaf litter samples from forests in northwestern Patagonia, Argentina. P. patagonica is the first species of the genus Paroppia found in South America. It differs from other Paroppia species in traits such as the shape of its fusiform sensillus and the size and position of notogastral and genital setae.
