This paper presents a method to automatically invert normal resistivity logs without requiring an initial model from an expert. It generates an initial model by synthesizing an approximate laterolog from the normal log data to determine layer boundaries and resistivities. Two example logs are then automatically inverted and compared to inversions using expert-picked initial models, showing the automatic method performs satisfactorily.
