The West Bengal government had previously decided to discontinue the practice of deploying government surveyors (amins) to measure private land, as it was considered an undesirable practice. However, representations were received requesting a review. The government has now decided that amins will not be deployed except by a court order or where there is risk of a breach of peace during a land demarcation dispute. The same fee principles as before will apply if amins are deployed in these exceptional cases.
