What is Overview of Plant and Animal Tissues about?

Meristematic tissues are made up of actively dividing cells found at growing points in plants. Their function is to produce more cells through division, leading to growth. Permanent tissues form the bulk of the plant body and do not divide, becoming specialized. There are three types of supporting permanent tissues: parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma. Xylem transports water and minerals upwards and consists of dead cells, while phloem transports sugars bidirectionally and consists of living cells.
