What is VDU and CDU Operations in Refinery about?
The crude distillation unit (CDU) separates crude oil into fractions like naphtha, kerosene, diesel and atmospheric residue based on their boiling points through fractional distillation. Crude oil is preheated, desalted and fed into the distillation column where it is heated from the bottom. Vapors separate into different fractions as they rise based on boiling point. Fractions are collected, with heavier ones condensing lower and lighter ones higher. Some condensed liquid is recycled to enhance separation.
