Wood nanocomposites were created by microfibrillating wood pulp to create microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), which was used to make a dense cellulose film. This film was impregnated with melamine formaldehyde (MF) and cured via hot pressing to create composites. Testing showed the pure cellulose film had a modulus of 14 GPa while composites reached 16.6 GPa. Strength was highest at 142 MPa for the composite with 9% MF content.
