Mary, Queen of Scots was born in 1542 and became Queen of Scotland as an infant when her father James V died. She was later married off to the Dauphin of France and lived in France for many years. Upon the death of her first husband, she returned to Scotland and ruled amidst religious conflict, later marrying her cousin Lord Darnley with whom she had a son, James. Her marriage to the Earl of Bothwell led to her imprisonment and forced abdication. She was later executed in 1587 by order of her cousin Elizabe
