Aim/introduction: Intermediate/high risk prostate cancers have multiple treatment options, which include high dose brachytherapy (HDR) boost with conformal external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). Typically, this involves multiple HDR insertions and/or fractions, which can be inconvenient to both the patient and planning process. We report our experience of a single HDR fraction. Materials and methods: Patients had 3 months of neoadjuvant LHRHa, followed by a single fraction HDR brachytherapy, 12.5 Gy (minimum peripheral dose), delivered intra-operatively under ultrasound guidance, followed by EBRT 37.5 Gy in 15 fractions prescribed to isocentre. This is biologically equivalent to a dose of 93 Gy given in 2 Gy/fraction, assuming an alpha/beta ratio of 1.5 Gy. Prospective data were collected on patients treated from July 2008 to March 2009, including demographics, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), LENT SOMA and quality of life (QoL). Adjuvant LHRHa usage varied. Results: 37 patients aged 52e75 years (median 68 years) staged 9 T1c, 17 T2 and 11 T3, with Gleason score range 6e10 (median 7) had a presenting PSA range 3.8e64 (median 16.6).LENT score for rectal/bowel: pre-treatment
