Antibiotic-resistant pathogen emanating from the use of antibiotics in the treating of human and animal diseases has led to environmental pollution which has now become a global threat, alternative additives to the use of antibiotics have now become imperative. Alternative additives in poultry feed like probiotics, prebiotics, antimicrobial peptides, enzymes, antibacterial vaccines, organic acid, plant extracts, and many others have promoted gut health, increased animal production, and has enhanced poultry and pig genetic potentials thereby substituting them with antibiotics. This chapter discusses the use of plant extract, antimicrobial peptides, enzymes, organic acid and pre, pro and symbiotic as feed additives candidates with the potential that can lead to sustainable poultry production in the absence of antibiotics.
