Accelerating green and low-carbon transition provides a potentially radical approach to effectively addressing climate change challenges and the accumulated consequences of human activities over two centuries. This may require remedying or reshaping human livelihoods and all industries. Despite global efforts over decades, much work remains to be done to achieve the transition. Modern society and industry rely heavily on the exploitation, transformation, and consumption of energy and resources. This must be radically changed through dramatic optimization in short to medium term, or complete reconstruction in long term by shifting traditional industrial processes to low-, zero-, or even negativecarbon ones. A state of harmony and symbiosis should be ultimately established between humans and nature for sustainable development (Fig. ).
