What is MLSS and MLVSS Testing Procedure about?

Mixed liquor is a combination of sludge and water from the clarifier that contains microorganisms. MLSS measures the total suspended solids in mixed liquor using the same test as TSS. MLVSS measures the volatile suspended solids that will burn up at 550°C, representing the microorganisms. Operators should test MLSS three times per week and MLVSS once per week from the same location using grab samples. The MLSS concentration is usually over 1,000 mg/L but below 4,000 mg/L.
