What is Overview of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty about?

The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) seeks to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. It divides countries into nuclear weapon states (US, Russia, China, France, UK) and non-nuclear weapon states. The NPT commits nuclear states to disarmament and non-nuclear states to not developing nuclear weapons. Nearly all countries have joined the NPT, except India, Israel, and Pakistan. Key articles require nonproliferation between states and verification of non-nuclear states
