What is Under-Five Protein Energy Malnutrition Admitted at The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu: A 10 Year Retrospective Review about?

This study reviewed 10 years of data on Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) admissions in children under five at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, revealing a total of 212 cases, predominantly among males aged 6 to 24 months. The most common form of PEM was marasmus, with a high case fatality rate of 40.1%, particularly in those with marasmic-kwashiokor. The findings suggest the need for improved infant feeding practices and community-level screening to reduce mortality associated with severe cases
