Kodachrome film has a unique color palette that made scanning slides difficult because scanners were usually profiled using Ektachrome film targets, not Kodachrome. The author discovered a rare 1999 Kodak K3 Kodachrome IT-8 target slide that allowed profiling scanners for Kodachrome. Testing showed scanning Kodachrome with a Kodachrome profile produced better color reproduction and detail retrieval than an Ektachrome profile.
