What is The Thing from Outside: A Tale of Terror about?

The party of Americans camping in the wilderness finds strange circular prints in the rocks. Their guides deserted them after seeing the prints, and are now dead. The geologist, Jandron, recognizes the prints and believes they were made by something from outside the known universe that can import extreme cold. He warns the others that this Thing is dangerous and may take notice of them. The others are skeptical but unsettled by Jandron
