What is Risk Factors for Breast Cancer Development about?

It sometimes seems as if the popular press reports the discovery of a new factor associated with an increased risk of breast cancer development on a weekly basis. Although the scientific basis for many of these is weak, some risk factors are well established and have been shown repeatedly to be important in many epidemiologic studies. These are the items numbered one through five in Table 1. Unfortunately, these are factors over which most women have little control.
