Can I read A Technique for Studying Flow, Fracture and Structure in Porous Media on EtoBox?

A Technique for Studying Flow, Fracture and Structure in Porous Media by Richard M. Griffith is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is A Technique for Studying Flow, Fracture and Structure in Porous Media about?

If a porous pellet prepared from colloidal powder is immersed in liquid of the same refractive index as that of the solid, then the liquid penetrates by capillary action and renders the filled zone transparent. However, the pressure of the trapped air prevents the macrovoids from filling and leaves them visible for counting and measurement in the otherwise transparent matrix. The rate of penetration enables permeability to be determined, and compression of the trapped air often causes brittle fracture from which the tensile strength can be calculated and the features of failure studied.
